Do I have to move away from Home Assistant?

No. Home Assistant stays on your hardware, set up the way you have it. Effortless Home connects to it through an add-on.

Does Effortless Home depend on the cloud?

Some Effortless Home features use our cloud services, including features that enable access and the Effortless Home experience outside your local Home Assistant environment. Your Home Assistant system remains your Home Assistant system.
